Corinne

This lady is AWESOME.

Corinne Bailey Rae! My absolute favorite artist (other than Michael Jackson) to walk this planet.

She’s not a new artist on the scene, she’s been producing some bops since 2005 (I believe, starting with Like A Star). If you haven’t listened to her yet, here’s one of my favorite songs by her:

I’m writing a little bit about her today because I listen to her music often, and I listen because I relate to most of it. Also, her voice is so pure and genuine and it just puts you at ease and fills you with joy at the same time. Not to mention, she’s absolutely gorgeous!

Corinne Bailey Rae, a British singer/songwriter, provides that connection in her music that we a lot of times don’t have the chance to experience with the music that’s being produced today. Her most recent album was published in 2016, and it’s titled The Heart Speaks in Whispers.

However, this is not a short artist biography.

I was watching an interview that she had with The Pool , a 10-minute interview, and she talked about the loss of her husband, what it was like to come back to music after that and her most recent album. She talked about a few different things as well, like things she enjoyed, having an inner voice, etc. As I was sitting there watching I just kept thinking: Wow, this girl is so amazing! As she was talking, I really did see myself in her a lot, especially when it came to the creative parts.

Anyway, my point in saying all this is: she is a really powerful woman, and such an inspiration to me. She’s worth listening to and learning about for sure. She’s the reason I started playing guitar and the first song I learned to play real well is in fact Like A Star.

Go and give her a listen! I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Net Neutrality – What You Should Know, Etc.

So we keep seeing this topic called Net Neutrality floating around on various social media and news outlets. A lot of you may still be wondering what the heck it’s all about. If you haven’t taken the time to research what it is and what it is not, now is the time to do so.

To put it simply: without Net Neutrality, we’re going to have to start paying for access to different sites that we already access for free.

NN

Yeah, doesn’t sound cool right? I’m sure a lot of us are already BROKE as it is with the bills and things we have to currently take care of. Government got me bent if they think I’m going to pay even more to use the internet. SIKE.

But anyway everyone, listen. It’s important that you take action so that we can continue to access the internet and it’s numerous resources for free. How would you feel if you, or your kids, or someone you know with kids, needed to go to the library to use a computer because you can’t afford your own at the moment and then end up being told that you have to pay for the different sites it’s imperative for you to access? HOW WOULD YOU FEEL!?

img_5130

If you’re a college student (any student really), how would you feel about having to pay to access resources for class (aside from the ones we had to empty all the pieces of lint out of our pockets for ALREADY)??

Or, you don’t have cable, so one of the only ways you can stay updated on the news is by visiting a news website?

Or you know if you make a living off of game streaming, or YouTubing, etc. and you have to pay to use Twitch, Mixer, YouTube, etc.? IT’S UNIMAGINABLE.

OR IF YOU’RE JUST SIMPLY TRYING TO BETTER YOURSELF…We can’t let this happen people.

Fight against it! The vote to get it repealed or to keep it will be cast on Thursday. We have two more days. SPREAD THE WORD. I’m sure there’s a lot more worrisome things going on in the world that a lot of us ignore as it is, but this isn’t one of the things we need to be ignoring. Stay informed, get active, and speak out.

CHECK THE LINKS BELOW. Some of them I’ve read thoroughly, others I haven’t, but they looked promising (if they aren’t just let me know and I’ll remove them). The first two links are ways to send messages to the FCC to tell them to chill out.

Did you know that the FCC is going to have a NET NEUTRALITY VOTE ON DEC 14th?

Animal Crossing: Life Preparation

The things you realize about certain games once you enter adulthood!

First…I want to start off with an apology about my last blog post. You know how we all have those moments…heh heh..yeah..ANYWAY.

SO TODAY…*drumroll* We are going to be talking about none other than the game:

Animal Crossing: Wild World

Animal_Crossing_Wild_World

This is the first time I’ve ever extensively talked about a game on any of my social media, so I’m excited, you should be too. Bianca, why are we talking about this game today? That’s a great question everyone, and I’m definitely going to tell you why in 3…2…1…

ALL RIGHT. I decided to talk about this game today because I recently picked it up out of my good ol’ DS case and started playing it again. I’m that person who likes to keep all of their old gaming systems so that I can reminisce on the good days past by immersing myself in the joys of my childhood.

What made me start playing AC:WW again though is Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. If you haven’t checked it out or heard of it, it’s a free game in the App Store and it’s super cute and fun.

PocketCamp1

Right, so on with my story. One day, once I got home from work, I got the urge to find my charger for my dusty DSi, charge it, and fire up AC:WW. (Okay, the DSi isn’t that old, but there isn’t much you can do with it now seeing as how all the DSi Ware no longer exists, I digress). I was super excited about playing my old game again! It brought back this flood of memories as I was figuring out how the game played out all over again. When the game started, and of course the title screen came up and the theme music started playing, I looked at the top half of my DSi and saw the year said 2005.

intro

2005 PEOPLE! My goodness! It’s been twelve years since this came out. I was in 5th grade in 2005. I was totally obsessed with this game, but it brought me so much joy.

After getting all emotional and what not, I started the game, erased the town that was already saved on the game card because I had no idea where I left off and I figured it was a good idea to start completely over (run-on sentences, bad). Once I got past the whole town setup portion and was actually able to go out into the world and start exploring it again, I started realizing something. Unbeknownst (ooo big word) to my 11 year old self, but now fully identifiable to my 22 year old self…this game was preparing you for the real, difficult and sometimes depressing phenomenon that is -gasp-…Adulthood.

Y’all, this game had us working at a job as soon as we arrived into the town (which, by the way is TOTALLY UNREALISTIC) which was a huge blessing because…you start off with no monies. None. Nada. You’re given this house in which you could probably hear the dust mites moving around because it was STUPID EMPTY. You also start off with getting to know maybe 3 neighbors, which are all animals by the way (hence the name Animal Crossing). There’s just so much thrown at you once you move in. Kind of like how real adulting is. Once you get out of college or move out from your parents, everything is just thrown at you and you either sink or swim for those initial six months LOL.

Mind you, this game is in real time. As the game progresses, you get laid off almost as immediately as you start working. That’s right, you get to keep this job for a whole day or two! EXCITEMENT. That really depends on how fast you perform your duties. Once that happens, you must start making a living for yourself by catching and selling fish and insects, harvesting fruit, running errands for your neighbors, selling your own furniture that you don’t need anymore, ETC. Unless you got blessed with some online friends who let you come to their town where they had this massive horde of bells (the currency in the game) and rained down all the shiny glory onto you for the free.

bells
BELLS FOR DAYS

Unfortunately, they shut down Nintendo WFC in 2014. You can no longer venture out and not be all alone in your town talking to yourself. (However there is a wonderful group of people who decided: HEY. THIS WAS A GREAT THING TO HAVE. LET’S BUILD A WHOLE SERVER SO WE CAN ALL KEEP PLAYING TOGETHER. YAY, CHILDHOOD! Bless them. God Bless them.)

I miss that so much. Exchanging friend codes, seeing other towns and the creativity we used to put into the game? It was great. If you missed it, you missed a great time.

Other things this game has you doing that is eerily similar to actual adulthood include:

lyle
That’s Lyle

purchasing Accident Insurance from this random weasel named Lyle who shows up at your front door a few days into the game, paying off a mortgage for your house remodeling from the same raccoon named Tom Nook who hired you and laid you off within the same day (and these mortgages are STEEP people. Just to add a second floor is something like 580,000 bells!),  saving money in a bank account at the town hall (in which you earn interest for your saved bells), flea marketing your unwanted furniture…AND SO MUCH MORE!

Mortgage
This is just the first mortgage installment…wait did this guy say “a mere”

Another cool thing is…you get the chance to become a Fashion Designer, an Angler, an Archaeologist, a famous painting connoisseur , a whole Entomologist and an Astrologer! So, you catch fish (like I mentioned before), dig up fossils, identify if paintings are counterfeit, catch insects and study the stars (even getting the chance to create your own constellations). That’s totally awesome, right!?

The other aspect of adulting you get to experience that I’d like to mention is…you can share your home with three other people! YAY, ROOMMATES (be they wanted or unwanted…heh heh).

Nothing depressing about this AT ALL, but I assure you, you’re playing the game and you won’t even feel depressed because you’re so entranced by the attractiveness of adventure of owning your own home and more (unless you’re trying to buy this bomb piece of furniture and you only have 5 bells to your name at the time).

This game unknowingly prepared us for life as an adult. Playing at the age I am now has made me realize that, but at the end of the day, it’s such a great game and I believe it’s still worth it to play it. I mean sure, you can be all fancy and buy the more recent versions of Animal Crossing, but why not enjoy the second installment? (The first one came out on the GameCube and my parents unfortunately never got my brothers and I one of those when we were younger. It’s cool though).

Haha, anyway, I hope you got a kick out of reading this! I sure did typing it up lolol.

HAPPY DECEMBER EVERYONE! and Happy, Happy Birthday to my oldest brother. I love you man!

P.M.S.!!!

Is you mad or nah?

Okay, so I really feel like laughing today.

Y’all see that featured image right? Let me tell you. That’s me. That’s exactly what it’s like before my cycle hits.

Every. Time.

LOL. I think I read somewhere that people said PMS is a myth or something like that (definitely not). What is PMS? Glad you asked. For those of you that aren’t aware (most likely my younger people who haven’t learned about the mystery that is womanhood):

pms

And there you have it. It’s funny because when it happens to me, for maybe a few days out of the week, I’m this raging monster (only at home, I barely manage to put on a mask when I go out however, if I look super mad for no reason, this is probably why) who stays holed up in my room for most of the day viciously playing GTA V or some kind of action game to relieve my unwarranted anger. OR, I’m the complete opposite. I’m crying and sad about everything in my life and everything hurts my feelings. OR. I eat everything in sight. OR. I’m knocked out somewhere and just basically a limp noodle.

PMS varies for a lot of women. For example, I don’t get bloated (at least I don’t think I do). I don’t know why it happens, but it does. It shouldn’t be taken lightly either. Not at all. Because I’m sure there are some females out there who will bite your head off if you cross them the wrong way during this time. Just continue to be patient with us, we aren’t doing it on purpose.

However, for those women using PMS as an excuse to act like you have no sense…get ‘cho life.

I wonder what Eve was like when she had the first PMS, LOL.

The After College Slump

What exactly was supposed to happen after I received my degree? LOL

Man, let me tell y’all something.

In all honesty, these past three months have been the MOST depressing months I’ve had in recent years. This shouldn’t be the case though! I JUST GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE. Why am I depressed? Why am I feeling unmotivated? Why do I want to sleep all day and/or watch anime?

Haha, well, apparently this type of thing happens to most recent graduates (aside from the sleeping and/or watching anime all day). I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro on May 12th. Everything was fantastic! I was looking forward to the summer, finally some time off, a chance to relax. But that time off started to last way too long and next thing I know, it’s July 31st. Still unemployed. No income coming in. A/C not functioning in my car. The list goes on and on and on.

Let me tell you, thank God I have people who snapped me out of it. I was going into a downward spiral because it just seemed like things were not looking up! I didn’t think it’d be this difficult to get a job in my field (I graduated with a B.S. in Information Systems & Supply Chain Management). It seemed like every time I had an opportunity, there was something that wouldn’t allow me to have it. But listen, every time God says “No”, there’s a greater “Yes” on its way, and I just had to keep telling myself that. To keep me uplifted and prevent me from withdrawing into myself, God has placed some wonderful people in my life. I thank God for my family, my friends, my mentors, shoot even my acquaintances who I may only see once or twice.

Though I still may be unemployed, I’m finding things to do in the meantime to keep my mind busy and focused on the future.

So…tips on how to deal with your after college slump?

  1. Don’t sleep all day like me
  2. Don’t watch anime all day like me
  3. Make a schedule for yourself to do things, even if it’s just to go for a walk at a certain time every day
  4. Get up and get moving!
  5. Reach out to those who have told you “If you ever need anything, CALL ME.” Actually do it, there may be an opportunity for you to do something…
  6. Remain steadfast, trust in the Lord and continue to pray and believe that greater is coming

Things will turn around eventually fam, I believe it and you should too! Hasta luego 🙂
